Personal style vs trends

After wearing some of my dresses for the last 10 days I was so ready for the skirt/ top combination. Not a shift that would change the world but a small note of playfull on a serious  activities day.

I own so few red colored pieces I could easily count. It's 3, this skirt, a tank top and a linen short jacket. I absolutely have no explenation because I love red but maybe I'm scarred of its intensity or maybe the association with vulgar many years ago. How do you feel towards red in big doses?

What I hold in my hands is the In style magazine of June. Honestly, by looking at the pages I can tell that I've never been so out of fashion in my life before! Whatever I own and rotate lately are non existant in the trends reports. If I take the reports seriously, I'm officially out of fashion. And this in a period in my life that I feel I'm the best dressed I 've ever been. I have discovered my inner stylista only to find out how out of fashion I am according to In style magazine. But I feel fine!!!

Outfit details *Skirt thrifted and shortened by me *shirt gift by a friend *scarf zara 4 years old * favorite thin belt Stradivarious 3 years ago and falling apart * bling 1-5 euro *Blue pocket for my mobile also a gift * shoes palatino, very comfortable.

My question is Who needs trends??? My answer People who don't have their own style yet. And in this sense this kind of magazines can be used as a guide to discover personal style!

I'm in the company of stylish Sacramento  and it's all about red!

A dress a day for a week challenge- Hard to style dress

I bought this dress a few months ago but never wore it before because it seemed difficult to style. It's lightweight and clearly a summer cloth so I had to wait until it got warmer, too.

It's an English brand called Wallis. I checked their site and they make nice affordable dresses. Mine obviously is from a much older collection but I can't say when.

Anyway, I woke up this morning and I knew exactly how to style it. You see the dress has a huge collar in white so I made the white continue in my upper body by wearing a simple white tshirt on top.

Then I put   on my beige cotton cardigan given to me by a friend and tied everything with my leopard print belt and was ready to face the world. I'm very proud that I managed to style a sort of granny dress into something wearable.

I still have doubts if it's age appropriate or well put together. I want my style of dressing to be considered normal but with a twist. I don't want to provoke, I'm not a teen anymore but to insert something playful and unexpected in my outfits. And I'm greatful that I can find lots of unexpected pieces at my local market for just a few bucks.

My elections dress

It's been quite busy at the moment at my little part of the world, in Greece. As I have already said it was elections time this past  Sunday and it will be elections time again this Sunday that is second round for local elections and vote for European Council.
I didn't care about politics before but after crisis fell like a hurricane in Greece I felt I had the obligation to find out what went wrong and how it will never happen again. To find what really happened. I did my recearch about recessions , I read a lot of history after the second world war in Europe, I followed the story of several south American countries etc and came down to a few conclusions. A fashion blog is not the right place to say more.
But I need to say one more thing. The more I made my recearch the more I became alert of the huge propaganda that goes on full force via tv and the press. Common sense and critical thought   of whole generations have been destroyed by this propaganda. What is happening in my country is history in the making and  somehow I feel it demands my constant attention.
On a different note I managed to take photos of two of my outfits and I had no time to go through your posts but I will because I missed all of you.

I found this lightweight dress some time last year in an open air bazaar and I fell in love with its 50s aesthetics. Where I live is not possible to buy 50s or older garments unless you have relatives and you can somehow hunt down. So this dress is new but has the 50s vibe and I assure you it was tricky to style because it was a size bigger and I had to  look adult in it. Tell me if I succeeded in both.  After all this was my elections dress and many people I know saw me in this.
Accidently while I was painting my nails in late evening a few drops of the nail paint fell on the dress.
I quickly put aceton to take away the color but some stains remained. You know of ways to make the stains go? Something you tried and worked?

I'm off to catch up with you!!!

A dress a day for a week challenge-brown dress

Ιt's elections time this Sunday. People in Greece will vote for local authorities. There is so much rage and disappointment against the goverment but also so much propaganda and fear about the future that there is no way to know how peope will vote. There are  hopes  that the local elections will be like a referendum to show the goverment the way out.
With elections on the way schools will be closed  both on Friday and Monday because people go there to vote and preparations have to be made. This gives us teachers a looong weekend! And what's best to wear at the begining of this long weekend? Well, of course another dress!

To make it special I wore it with a scarf and a thin belt. Somehow thin belts seem to match my body type lately or I have found a way to place them at exactly the right place around my waist so I get the proportions thing right! Has something similar  happened to you ?

On another note I'm giving my daughter the bad example. Look at those slippers and the fancy posing!

I leave you with a kiss and high hopes that the European elections next week will open the way to more democracy and put humans before money once again!

A dress a day for a week challenge- Black

Ι always find the end of the school year the most difficult period. The main reason I have figured is the ingreasingly hot weather.

It affects kids and adults in certain ways like complete lack of concentration, constant day dreaming of beaches and outdoor activities and a kind of lethargic mood that only high temperatures can give.

And while adults more or less deal with it and stay focused most of the time kids totally lose it. With the exeption of the first hours when it's somewhat fresher the rest of the hot day is a drag.

So a teacher has to deal with more fights, more moody children, less disciplined classes and a growing impatience for school to finish so that summer holidays  start!

That's the situation I'm struggling with at the moment. It's not that big deal in a time that 28% of my fellow citizens are unemployed (60% among young people) and 3.000.000 have no medical insurance in a population of 11.000.000 people.

I just wanted to give you an idea of what  I dealt with this morning dressed in black clothes. By the way I got many compliments by the kids and fellow teachers! And the shoes were a hit! I'm convinced that people adore leopard print shoes!

A dress a day for a week challenge -Tribal dress & plaid

Have you noticed that every dress I own sooner or later gets the blue plaid shirt treatment?

Every newcomer in the form of a dress has to be combined with it usually with great results!
It's my go to shirt and I can wear it with everything I own.

I might take it with me to the grave! Well, I plan to live happily for a long time and besides it's already falling apart to pieces.

That's why I wear it under dresses or cardis so that its falling..... apartness is not visible.  Do you do that with your clothes? Wear them in certain ways so their flaws( too short, too tight, stains, cuts you name it) are not visible?

Outfit details *dress promod *plaid shirt... in chorus... H&M *shoes zara (worn about 15 times and falling apart, too).

A dress a day for a week challenge- Tank safari

Do you know I give names to my dresses?Maybe not but you kind of suspected it all the way, no?
Well Safari Hennes for the long beige one and Cotton Tank for the shorter dress underneath. Not fancy names just on the practical side.

And probably because I have nothing better to do I tried to figure out a name for the combination I'm wearing today.

Tank Safari. That's what I came up with! An abandoned war tank that's now used for driving tourists around on an unforgetable safari tour. I would be their guide in my outfit minus the shoes. I haven't decided on the shoes, yet !!!

Does it make sense? Don't ask me! I take photos of my outfits everyday. What do I know?

Outfit details *beige dress Hennes for H&M * dress underneath denim & co both thrifted *rings berska & stradivarious

A dress for a week challenge- Blue Sunday dress

I really wanted to make this outfit work. You want to know why? Because this dress inspires me!

If you let me loose I could wear it non stop in 100 ways. Which I might do if I run out of challenges.

For the moment I have to make just one outfit so I'm going to pull out what's hanging next to it in the mess I call wardrobe. And you thought I put together outfits in more sophisticated ways! Sorry I spoiled it!

I wish things were that easy in real life ,too. Or maybe they are! Just go for whatever is there next to you!
