Finally my style is evolving

A week ago after I experienced a dead end for quite sometime with both my style and my blogging I came across an article about how women in Paris dress where I read about how they go for quality over quantity. I had read about this stuff before but now it hit home.
Upon making a recearch in the internt I found out there are many bloggers out there who don't go for consumerism or wearing different clothes for ever and I came across a sort of philisophy about how to build a perfect wardrobe with high quality items that I'll love and enjoy to wear for years to come. How to wait and search for the perfect fit and the perfect fabric and fit and how to save my money for that special item that's really perfect for me.
I read about waiting   and slow down about aquiring stuff and concider building a wardrobe as collecting art even!
I did a mega editing of my wardrobe and estimated all my wrong impulse buys to some hundreds of euros!
No hard feelings... my style is finally evolving and that's what makes me happy and calm.
What I'm wearimg today are loved and well worn for many years items such as my 100% woolen sweater that stays with me since 2000 and has kept me warm through many winters. It feels soft and has a rich brown color.

As for the skirt it's made by me a few months ago out of vintage fabric my aunt gave me. It feels unique and I plan to make a few basic pieces myself. At the moment I try to figure out the perfect patterns for my body and then I will search for the right fabric. It will take sometime but the clothes will stay with me for a long time.
I'd love to hear what you think about all these. It's quite a change but I was ready for it so everything went smoothly.

Change of course

I've been feeling quite uneasy for more than a month now about some strong issues like consumerism and the destruction of the environment as well as the course my shopping habits had taken.
I was turning into the woman I was warned about so many times. I found again and again this year myself shopping poor quality clothes on discount price .Then, the moment I would bring those home  I would lose interest .Or wear them a couple of times but still everything looked like...wrong!

I would follow certain blogs most by girls in their 20s and that felt disconnecting.(I have great respect for some of them but just didn't feel the right inspiration for my age, turning 43 any time soon).
My closet was filling up quickly. A great majority of the stuff was given to me by my parents or relatives and althought I felt emotionally attached to them...they didn't look right on me.
I tried to mend things by doing 30 for 30 remix to narrow my choices but my closet gave me a big amount of dissappointment when I opened it.
To be continued...

Copy and tell

I'll be honest with you , I got inspired for this outfit by Brittney over A day in life too .She's got great style, so I thought to give it a try.
The olive green cardigan is from a year ago but olive green is very popular color at the moment. The blouse was given to me by a dear friend a couple of weeks ago ( not that you care!).
Red and olive green go good together and I should probably hide  these pants and force myself  to get more creative in the ...bottoms section!
My bangles call for spring,  in case you didn't notice! After yesterday's ranting there's nothing much I feel like saying today! See you tomorrow for some middle of the week chating!

Politics vs fashion

Behind this smiling face you see every day there is a troubled soul! Maybe not all of you have noticed that I come from Greece. At the moment, Greece is a country that is suffering a great deal because of corrupted polititians that allowed the International Monetary Fund to invade the country.
This is an unfair economic war and Greece happened to be the first victim as other European countries will follow the years to come. All in all, it's an undeserving path for the whole world to go where the profit rules and the individuals suffer but that doesn't matter.

I'm trying to strike a balance between my political aspects and my interest in fashion and it's soo difficult (you have to take my word for it). As you know already, I try to be a very reasonable consumer and try to make my own clothes buy second hand and remix. But I quess I still feel quilty.
I have to fight the stereotypes, I think. Can a well dressed female have radical political opinions? And God forbid can a woman be equally interested in fashion and politics in the same time and feel passionate about both?

Ramblings of a style seeker

A faux pas in the fashion world that actually looks  super  good to me is pairing denim and denim together. After I've seen this combo around I decided to see it for myself.  It certainly brings a 70's aura which is very hot for spring and summer.
So Angie vs consuming  1-0.

See how happy that makes me feel?
I've noticed longer lenths in skirts and pointy kitten heel shoes to make their appearence in the shops.  Also lots of knits and wooden sole shoes.
What have you noticed that are the new major trends in the spring and summer and maybe follow well into next autumn and winter?

On a different note here is an outfit I wore in the middle of the week but didn't have the chance to post. True to my belief  that wearing my clothes year round I double the size of my creative options ,I put my yellow sweater  under the spell of my navy top and kept the rest black.

The only thing about this outfit is that I've never worn such a tight skirt in years and I felt very body concsious the whole day!  On the other hand this elastic skirt felt so... comfortable . I hope you don't get the idea these are the only things that preoccupy my mind all day long!!!
What strikes me is how different the two outfits are. One is serious and the other one is playful. One is classy the other one is ...not classy.
What I'm trying to say is that I have many ways I get dressed, many styles but I'm still experimenting and I haven't pinned down my personal style yet. But that's o.k because it's the journey that counts, right?
How do you feel about this? Have you already found your true style? If not what do you think helps?

Down the memory lane

I'm not gonna lie to you but I like this outfit! It's styled after the inspiration I got frm visiting a well known retail brand. I noticed soft sweaters in earth tones together with browns and greens and denim displayed at one corner of the shop. The combination felt familiar and when I got home I took out this lovely sweater made by my mum in the middle of the 80s. (Talking about original stuff here). Actually , I haven't worn this sweater for (let me count)25 years!!! I was 18 years old when I last wore it ...what more to say. My mum kept it in good condition for all these years perhaps in hope that I 'll wear it again.
What I wear underneath  is my trusted olive green cardigan . After that, it wasn't very difficult to add the brown belt and the scarf which are very  very similar to those in the display

Now , confess ...are there clothes that stayed in your closet for decades and then you decided it was time to wear again? How did it feel?

I'll show you some detail now to check for yourself how the scarf ties together the outfit. I have no doubt that you can get away with the same outfit for a week and no one will notice if you wear a different scarf each day!

The way I wear my sleeves

This great and warm sweater was given to me by a friend a few days ago. It's wollen and it was shrunk by accident . I beleive I will take good care of it and that's how I styled it for my day at school!

What you see here is a way to wear my sleeves pulled as far down as possible. According to popular pshycology that's a sign of an insecure person. But to me it's a sign of feeling relaxed and totally myself. It sometimes keeps me warm ,too. Do you do that as well? How do you feel about it? Is it something that bothers you when you see it at other people?
I like how the scarf depicts the grey of the sweater. I bought the scarf a year ago and  have enjoyed it very much since!

Deep in thoughts

I 'm troubled these days by my buying habits. On one hand, I love clothes and the way I can get creative around them.On the other hand , I hate how short lived and frivolous each fashion season appears to be and also the over the top consumerism that is attached to fashion. It somehow bothers me that fashion equals consumerism. It shouldn't be like that...but how else should it be?
I want to keep on blogging but I don't want to be on the lookout for the next thing to buy!!!
I know I sound confused because that's the way I feel! How do you feel about all these? How do we get the constant spending out of fashion? I trully want your opinion about this!

I never thought they would go so well together. But they do, if I may say so!

Is it that for fashion you need money but for style you don't? Is this fashion epiphany because others have said that but now finally it makes sense?

The blogger's dance

Today , I will be trying the blogger's dance!!! I think I'm getting the hang of it, let alone that I enjoy the steps very much.

Speaking of steps I finally got myself a new pair of shoes! It's got a masculine vibe to it which I grew to like! I can't wait to see how I will style it!

This outfit was born out of necessity to keep me warm and comfy all through my busy day but it has also brightened  my day because the colors are so vivid !!!

Jacket mania

Quess what with am I wearing the lovely obi belt  I made out of ties not so long ago (you can find tutorial here  , super easy)!  Yeap! It's a jacket!!!
I only own 3 jackets. You'll see two of them featured here!  It took me so long to incorporate a jacket into my wardrobe cause I never thought of  it as versatile. How little did I know!!!  Jackets are my style epiphany.  Period.

And this is my second take on the jacket.  Mind you the first one is part of a suit whose trousers are long ago torn and forgotten and the second one was a bargain buy I bought last year to experiment with the whole jacket thing!
A propos, when you want to experiment with a style or a certain clothing item do you buy cheap or spend to make sure it's of good  quality  but run the risk to wear only a few times?

Closet meditation

What I like about putting outfits together is this pang of inspiration that opens my eyes and suddenly certain clothes are put together in ways I've never thought before!
It might sound funny but this taught me that there are always things  I can do in any situation( besides outfits) ... that I've never thought before!
So every morning when I get dressed I try to meditate on  other important issues in my life in ways... I've never thought before!
I simply allow this to happen because I know it leads to some great results!

For today, I keep on wearing summer tshirts over sweaters so that I can have a slice of summer with me now that the weather is bad.
And just because devil is in the details have a glimpse of my  trusted  animal print ring that transforms any outfit

Strong colors

One of the spring trends is strong colors, right? Do I need to run around and buy some? Not colors but colorful clothes!
Well, I didn't run like crazy to the shops instead I opened my closet and there I came face to face with  this pretty yellow sweater! Shops vs my closet 0-1!!!
Then I realised I'm on a mission to wear my summer t shirts in winter so I grabbed these stripes and kept the rest black!
There you have it! Colors and stripes coming out of my minimal closet! ( mind you I also have 30 items to pick from this month).
I think you could use some detail
My styling tip for today is no matter how colorful you want to be, you still need to have a neutral background for the colors to pop! My favorite background color for winter is black!
I was wondering how easy it is for you to interpret the trends with what you already own. And although it is not always possible what resources do you use to get the look ?

An unexpected surprise!!!

Today I had the biggest surprise as a blogger. Sweet Liz from lizzypunch and always inspired Indiana from
adoredaustin.com started a style chain inspired by my Monday outfit. I've never heard of the style chain before but I think it's a great idea!
Today I'm thrilled for another reason, too. I 've found a way to wear most of my summer t shirts! I can wear them over my shirts!!! This way I create whole lot of new outfits and make full use of my t shirts!
Domesticland is calling! I have to go but before that I'll give you detail shots

See what I mean? How can you put a tshirt like that away for winter?

Would a red belt fit better?
Style tip of the day(in case you didn't get it)  t shirts over shirts.

Learning to love

Actually, the last 10 days the last thing on my mind is how to get dressed each morning but rather how to master my photocamera .
It's more than slightly annoying to hit the button and get blurry photos again and again and again!
That's the only  clear one  I managed for today and I proudly present .
What I feel is worth telling is that the cream sweater is hand knitted by mommy more than 20 years ago. I had it in my closet again since summer not knowing how to style it! Mind you I hated this sweater back then but I feel like the time has come to appreciate it.
Do you have the same feeling about some of your clothes? Like you have to mature in style to start to love them and use them?
Now I know that you want to see detail !!!
